OGE honors teacher

OG&E recognizes OKCPS teacher as May Power Educator of the Month

F.D. Moon Middle School P.E. teacher honored for dedication to education

Students, educators and OG&E representatives gathered at F.D. Moon Middle School to celebrate Ty-Juan Turner, a physical education teacher, as the May OG&E Power Educator of the Month.

In recognition of his impact, OG&E awarded Turner a $500 DonorsChoose donation to support resources and materials that will benefit his students.

Turner is dedicated to promoting both the physical and mental well-being of his students. Through his instruction, he not only emphasizes fitness and proper training techniques that students can apply beyond the classroom, but also consistently models core values such as honesty, respect and accountability. His intentional approach to building relationships and supporting students both on and off the court has made a lasting impact on all who enter his gym.

“I became a teacher because I know how important it is for young men to have positive male role models, especially in school settings,” said Turner. “I love being able to show up for my students and teach them the importance of accountability and hard work.”

OG&E’s Power Educator of the Month program recognizes K-12 educators who make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students and school communities.

“Ty-Juan Turner is making a meaningful difference for his students by encouraging healthy habits, strong character and personal accountability,” said Kara Givens, OG&E Community Outreach Coordinator. “His dedication to supporting and mentoring students is exactly the kind of impact the Power Educator program was created to recognize.”

Turner was nominated by Joy Morgan, a member of the school community.

“He believes that his calling is to encourage students to be their best selves, and he takes the time to get to know them,” said Morgan, “He seeks to be the change he wants to see in the community.”

Through programs like the Power Educator of the Month, teacher STEM grants through DonorsChoose, OG&E Positive Energy Scholarships and e-SMARTkids, OG&E supports students, families and educators across its service area.
